Barcelona was just waking up when I entered the apartment of Eva and Nicolás. The smell of hot coffee filled the huge entry corridor and my eyes were drawn to the typically Barcelonan colours of the tiles. It is a breathtaking place for a very minimalist atmosphere. Eva and Nicolás like uncluttered furniture and spaces. The appartment resembles them: it is understated and beautiful. They are both very free spirits; they work at home or in the office as the fancy takes them. While Nicolás visits his huge worksites, Eva works for Spanish fashion brands ranging from haute couture to shoes. Their apartment is like an ode to the city and its people. I can’t wait to go back there.
Eva, could you introduce yourself ?
I am a fashion designer and Nicolás is an architect. We are living together in Barcelona.
How long have you been living in this beautiful apartment ?
We moved in here six years ago. Six wonderful years as a couple in this flat.
What did you like best about your apartment when you moved in ?
Its majesty : the height of the rooms, the light, the old ornament on the floors and ceilings, the patina on the walls.
Where do you spend most of the time in your apartment ?
We spend the morning working in the studio with the morning natural light, and the afternoon reading in the gallery accompanied with the sunset.
What is missing in your house ?
A garden.
The piece of your dreams ?
Our library.
Where do you get your inspiration for your work and your interior ?
Intuition, opportunity, chance…
Did you do the decorating ?
Yes. We both did the decorating, with time, research, and tons of conversation. Nicolás is the pragmatic, I am the dreamer.
Your latest crush ?
A Curtis Jere sculpture for me and a saxophone for Nicolás.
What is your current interior design must-have ?
The work of Olafur Eliasson (who, actually, is not an interior designer).
Two or three restaurants you would recommend in Barcelona ?
Super super bar, Lo de flor and Céleri.
