When choosing household linen, never underestimate the choice of colours or the quality of cottons. It’s better to focus your choices rather than end up with a heap of odd, soggy towels. Here at The Socialite Family, it has to be white every time. Let’s not beat about the bush, this colour has everything going for it: impact, softness and refinement. And the more variations there are in thicknesses and fabrics, the better it is! Let’s take the bathroom, for example. Here, it’s better to avoid strong gaudy colours and stick with the gentleness of white, like an old trousseau. Choose white linen that you can pick up in vintage shops, at auctions and in our e-Shop. Look for long fringed finishes, to carry you off to a chateau hotel. You can display old linens in your bathroom or save them for your guests. When it comes to fabrics, display your honeycomb or cotton cheesecloth bath mats, throws and dressing gowns to create a soothing aestheticism. These are absolute classics. They may have fallen a little out of favour, but they never go out of style. They will make your interior look more elegant and, above all, make it more comfortable for you and your children. The same goes for the bedroom. After all, it seems that we have better dreams when sleeping in white linen, particularly when it’s as soft as cotton satin. To push tradition to the max, look for pieces with the ladder hems that our grandparents were so keen on. A romantic touch that runs through our sheets and pillow cases and that can be made your own with a personalised embroidery. We’ll have to wait and see if you’ll choose coloured thread or immaculate white!
