A Summer Day in Cap Ferret with Marguerite Bartherotte and Chris Willatt
From Petit Piquey to the tip of Cap Ferret, painter Marguerite Bartherotte and her partner, musician Christopher Willatt of the band Oracle Sisters, share the places and rituals that shape their summers, from cuttlefish fishing off the jetty to favourite coffee spots and family swims. A passionate surfer, the founder and creative director of G.Kero then leads us through the pine forest to her favourite beach, where she catches waves on a surfboard customised with her own artwork. A day lived to the rhythm of the tides, immersed in nature, the ocean and endless inspiration.

Piquey Jetty and Beach
“Piquey Jetty is our meeting point. By 8 a.m., even on school days, our son Marlow is already asking when we're going down to the jetty. In the evening, I meet him off the school bus with our wagon and his fishing rod. While he fishes for cuttlefish with a squid jig, we swim just beside him on the little beach by the landing stage. It's one of those wonderfully simple beaches on the Bay of Arcachon that we never tire of, with an incredible view of the Dune du Pilat. We can happily spend hours there.” — Marguerite

Grand Piquey
“The morning’s catch – mostly cuttlefish at this time of year – is then brought back to our house, tucked away beneath the pines and oak trees, where Christopher cooks it with a handful of tomatoes and raw garlic added at the very last minute. It makes for the perfect summer lunch, invariably rounded off with a coffee from Miche Coffee, our friends' roastery in Cap Ferret.” — Marguerite

“Before heading to the G.Kero boutique in the heart of Cap Ferret, I stop by Chacha Café almost every day. They make a really good coffee here – and I do love a really good coffee! You can also grab breakfast, a cookie, a pancake or a freshly made juice. It's my little daily ritual.” — Marguerite

G.Kero Shop
“Welcome to G.Kero! Here, we take our shoes off. Not to protect the floor, but because the wood feels so soft beneath your feet. I love places that speak to all the senses. From the outside, the boutique is almost understated. Inside, you'll find prints, colours, collections layered together, raw linen curtains that I hand-painted for the fitting rooms, and little details to discover, like illustrations hidden inside the lining of our jackets.” — Marguerite

Truc Vert Beach
“Truc Vert Beach, reached via the forest track of the same name, is our favourite surf spot. Depending on the tide, we might surf here or a little further along the beach. Sometimes you have to walk 200 or 300 metres with your board along the shoreline to find the perfect wave, but that's all part of the fun. The children love coming here too: thanks to the boardwalk, it's easy to cross the dune. There are plenty of secret surf spots around here, if you're willing to climb through the sand to find them! And after a good session, we almost always end up at Le Mirador for a drink, with its incredible view over the Dune du Pilat.” — Marguerite
