Maison Souquet, a Hedonist Palace

Maison Souquet, a Hedonist Palace

Maison Souquet is one of the multiple Parisian secrets the app You me Paris has been trying to reveal you since the beginning of January. A work of art for lovers from the whole world, with 6 thematic routes and places well-selected. Initiated by the Parisian jewels brand Chaumet and the website My Little Paris, You me Paris celebrates the city of love with a lovely relevance and avoids the leaps. Had they done this, Sylviane Sanz and Yoni Aidan would have missed their turn. Difference matters a lot to the owners of Maison Souquet, the founding members of the Collection Maisons Particulières. The difference of experience and taste. In the heart of Montmartre, just near Moulin Rouge, Mrs. Souquet’s brothel has become a hedonist palace. Behind a discrete facade, the intimate hotel reveals an illusionist labyrinth led by the originality of the decoration designed by Jacques Garcia. A “sensational” – but not “ostentatious” – combination of art objects, fine mixes and eclectic furniture which celebrates a suspended moment. We are impressed and moved by this history of Paris. Of its belle époque. A world of possibilities and exoticism where, just for one night, we play the first role.

Sylviane, Yoni, who are you?

Yoni

Sylviane Sanz and Yoni Aidan, the two founding members of the Collection Maisons Particulières, including the Maison Athénée, next to Place Vendôme, and the Maison Souquet, near Montmartre and the famous Moulin Rouge. The establishments of the Collection Maisons Particulières were thought to provide an intimate take on luxury. They are secret and intimate, and they reflect the story and soul of the Parisian neighbourhoods in which they are. Their decoration favours the sensational and rules out the ostentatious.

What’s the story of Maison Souquet?

Sylviane

The Maison Souquet transforms a brothel Mrs. Souquet opened in 1905 into a small palace. Its enchanting decor is reserved for some initiated people. Behind a discrete facade, it reveals an illusionist labyrinth far from everything you have ever seen until now.

What’s its spirit, in three words?

Yoni

Secret, chic and elegant.

Why did you enlist the services of Jacques Garcia for the decoration?

Sylviane

His style perfectly matched the project of Maison Souquet. Indeed, he knows better than anyone else how to create absolutely elegant atmospheres, a mix of genres coming from his intuition and passion for fine materials, rare objects and stories he tells. In Maison Souquet, he has naturally celebrated the mix of the Moorish style and the Napoléon III velvets, and he has assembled an eclectic collection of pieces of furniture, art objects and paintings, whose authenticity is perfect for the spirit of the place.

What was the meaning of choosing this decoration?

Yoni

It was to tell an authentic story, a piece of Paris history, at the belle époque, a beloved time during which Paris was the heart of the world.

If the hotel was a famous couple, which one would it be?

Sylviane

The Countess of Castiglione and Napoléon III, the affair between an emperor and the women who was called “the most beautiful woman of the century”.
