What is the Memphis group? It is a collective of Italian designers who, in the 1980s, decided to buck the design trend as a means of direct communication. An atypical style blending humour, colours and hybrid forms. It has a very strong essence in terms of identity and materials: stratified furniture and fanciful and offbeat lighting which violated classic design codes. This is the spirit that the iconoclasts Ettore Sottsass and Michele de Lucchi, just to name these two, sought to embody. For aficionados of the Memphis spirit, here is our moodboard.
