We just couldn’t resist stopping off at the imposing Villa Borsani during our last visit to Milan. For the Salone del Mobile, Tommaso...

Nadia, can you tell me who is behind VBS ?
Franck, Nissad and I, are a three person partnership and are childhood friends. We have worked for three years on the project before opening last June. I had previously worked in the world of fashion… in Paris, United States and Canada for a few years before getting involved in VBS.
Why the combination of a barber shop and men’s fashion boutique ?
I think it came from our ambition to create a place that not only appealed to us but the fact that we couldn’t find this particular concept anywhere in Paris. We wanted a friendly place where you can spend time and talk and hang out. Also a place with an area specifically dedicated to a mans needs but offering a new experience that is also unique.
The concept store is both vintage and industrial, how did you use the space ?
We wanted a spacious, bright space with a masculine spirit. We used raw materials related to wood and leather to evoke a feeling of warmth. For the barber area, we drew inspiration from original barber shops in New York. The seating is by Koch which we imported directly from New York. For the remainder, Franck designed it all… he is especially passionate about design! Finally, for the books we really love Taschen Publishing.
For the fashion, what i your selection process ?
Two criteria are notable important to us; the heritage of the brand and the quality of the materials. I believe men have a different attitude and relationship with shopping with a view to longevity, research and quality. Of course, a collection should matter to us too. We have many shopping exclusives too, as with the British brand Private White VC, American denim company 3sixteen or leather goods team Winter Session. A brand that is very dear to us is French brand Vetra, a company in business since 1927.
Any plans for the future ?
