Using objects, clothing and graphics simultaneously, the designers broaden France’s cultural horizon towards a society of uninhibited luxury where the image – eclectic and effervescent – enjoys total freedom of expression. A cultural melting pot without restrictions, where exuberantly patterned joyfulness flirts with the Memphis kitsch of Ettore Sottsass and the minimalist and experimental lines of independent designers such as Philippe Stark. It was the golden age of galleries and the media, but also of nightlife. All these synergies intertwine to give this decade that extra soul that never ceases to delight our senses and those of the characters we meet in The Socialite Family. Valérie Bouvier, Axel Chay, Jean-Michel Roccuzzo and Julien Sebban, founder of the Uchronia studio: all of them sensitive to the irreverence of the 1980s and, with their fantasy and their acute sense of life, they demonstrate that this spirit remains unquestionably contemporary!
